Hi guys and ladies,
I hope someone or somebody out there can clear my doubts.
I got a question.It makes me kept thinking.I'm unsure of why the
 Professional(So call more expensive) Camera's such as the D200,D300,D700,D2Xs,D3 are using Compact Flash Cards while the D40,D40X,D60,D80,D90 uses the SD memory Cards.
Is there any difference with regards on the picture quality when using any of these Storage media? 

There is no difference in quality of the images when using different cards .. CF used to be the norm for digital cameras due to their faster speed and cheaper pricing.. But now SD cards has caught up to them .. with most cameras .. there will be lil difference in the write speed of either cards ..

Pro cameras still uses CF mainly for its speed performance .. To sum things up ..

CF = Bigger, Faster, More ex.
SD = Smaller, Slightly slower, Much cheaper.

Alot of new cameras support SD now is due to its small form factor...

cf cards are for professional cameras. those entry level dont need such speed. AND CF CARD IS MORE EXPENSIVE than sd card.

I think that CF card is more used if your into fast paced shooting, so you can burst the frames to save in faster 

If your shooting normally, SD would suffice. 

SD has SD-HC for faster then SD but not as fast as CF .

yeapp yeapp... SD will not keep up to the speeds of CF cards... and CF cards have mircodrive types.. so they have bigger space (more than 8gb) and are generally faster.... cuz i think those abv 8gb ( some ) may use hdd technology. but i think they are phasing out already.

though sandisk has come up with SD extreme.... its not as fast as a CF extreme.

And yes Farhan .. SD is now really much cheaper Dirt cheap in fact .. BUT CF was cheaper several years back, if i did not remb wrongly =)

The only two major difference is that, the SD card speed should be much slower and i dont think there's a 266X/300X/40MB+ read/write speed for SD card.

Secondly, the SD format option seriously puts professionals off, as it means more hassle when having a entry level body for backup since they do not share the CF media format.
